The Royal Commission of the Superior Civil Service in India under the Chairmanship of Lord Lee, in its 1924 Report, recommended setting up of Public Service Commission of India. The Public Service Commission of India was set up on 1st October, 1926 under the Chairmanship of Sir Ross Barker.

The Education Board prescribes syllabi, courses of instructions and text books for school education in Himachal Pradesh besides conducting examinations based on such courses. At present, the Board conducts examinations for the 8th,10th, Plus One and Plus Two classes. In addition, departmental examination like J.B.T., T.T.C and P.V.T.C are also being conducted by the Board. As many as 4.5 lac candidates annually appear in the examinations conducted by the Board .
To begin with, the Board had only 34 officials on its establishment which strength has now increased to 438. The first examination was conducted by the Board in 1970 at 99 examination centres. Presently, keeping in view the increased number of candidates and typical geographical conditions of the Pradesh, the Board has set up 1650 Examination centres throughout the State. Apart from a Liaison Office at Shimla, the Board has also established 19 Sale Book Depots/Information Centres in the Pradesh to cater to the needs of students. Haryana Public Service Commission
Public Service Commissions, both at the Union and at the State level, are amongst the most important Public Institutions with long traditions which have served well. The establishment of this Institution had its origin in the history of Indian nationalism and the persistent demand of the leaders of freedom movement for progressive Indianisation of the Civil Service under British Raj. The Montagu-Chelmsford Report accepted in principle the demand for Indianisation of the higher civil services and accordingly a provision for this was made in the Government of India Act, 1919. The Royal Commission of the Superior Civil Service in India under the Chairmanship of Lord Lee, in its 1924 Report, recommended setting up of Public Service Commission of India. The Public Service Commission of India was set up on 1st October, 1926 under the Chairmanship of Sir Ross Barker.
The first Commission at the provincial level was the Madras Service Commission established in 1930 under a 1929 Act of the Madras legislature. The Government of India Act, 1935 provided for the establishment of a Public Service Commission for each Province. Accordingly, under the 1935 Act seven Public Service Commissions were established in 1937 for the provinces of Assam (at Shillong), Bengal (at Calcutta), Bombay and Sindh (at Bombay), Central Provinces, Bihar and Orissa (at Ranchi), Madras (at Madras), Punjab and North-West (at Lahore) and the United Provinces (at Allahabad). All the State Public Service Commissions including the successors of the older Provincial Public Service Commissions came to be established after the reorganization of States after independence.

The counting of votes took place amidst high security arrangements at the Dombivli sports complex to avoid and violence between two parties after the counting. There was a tough battle between Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray. During the campaigning, they have done all they could to beat each other.
Thackeray With 26 corporators under his belt, Thackeray is caught in a Catch-22 situation. He will have to decide whether to support Shiv Sena-BJP or the Congress-NCP combine to form the new civic government in return for Mayor’s post.
Shiv Sena-BJP with 40 seats and Congress-NCP with 30 need MNS to capture power.
According to sources, if Thackeray choses to support the Sena-BJP, he will lose credibility. He had campaigned extensively against the "bad governance" of the Sena-BJP in the KDMC during its 15 year tenure.
It remains to be seen if MNS repeats its act of supporting the Sena like it did in neighbouring Ambernath in May this year.
Six corporators of MNS had supported the Sena-BJP to win the president’s election in the Ambernath Municipal Council despite the saffron combine having less councillors than the Congress-NCP.
Congress sources said the party will not be interested in taking MNS support. Majority of the 11 independents are supporting the Congress-NCP.

As a result of the discretionary powers left to provincial Government, the Government of Madras and Punjab proposed to set up their Public Service Commissions.
The Madras Service Commission thus came into being under an Act of the Madras Legislature in 1929. Madras Presidency had the unique honour, of being the only province in India to establish the first Service Commission. The Madras Service Commission started with three Members, including the Chairman. After re-organisation of States in 1957, several Commissions were constituted. The Madras Service Commission became Madras Public Service Commission with headquarters at Madras in the year 1957. During 1970, when the name of the State was changed into Tamil Nadu, the Madras Public Service Commission automatically became the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC).
In view of its important and impartial function, Public Service Commissions rightly find a place of pride in the Indian Constitution. Articles 16, 234, 315 to 323 deal with various functions and powers of the Public Service Commissions. The working of Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission is also regulated by Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission Regulation, 1954 and the TNPSC Rules of Procedure.

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced Final Results of Central Police Forces (Assistant Commandants). CPF written Exam 2011 was held on 11th October, 2011 and the Personality Test was held in Aug-Sep 2011. The successor administration after the merger of the princely states promulgated an ordinance on 16th August,1949 establishing the Rajasthan Public Service Commission Ajmer. It provided for the abolition of the PSCs or other institution performing duties in the nature of those of a PSC in the constituent states. The ordinance also provided inter-alia, for the composition of the Commission, the staff and the functions of the Commission.

One of the first 16 Universities in India, the University of Kerala was founded as the University of Travancore in the erstwhile princely state of Travancore (now southern part of Kerala and some neighbouring parts of state of Tamilnadu) in 1937. During the 7 decades since the University of Kerala grew and shrunk physically and transformed itself in many ways. It is difficult to summarise what the Kerala University is in a brief space.
The earliest origins of the University may be traced back to two institutions of modern learning in Kerala, the University College, Thiruvananthapuram and the Trivandrum Observatory. The University College was initially founded as the Maharaja’s Free School by Maharaja Swathi Thirunal in 1834, with Mr John Roberts.

In pursuance of the National Policy on Education the Government of Kerala established the Directorate of Higher Secondary Education in the year 1990. The Directorate is envisaged as a central agency of the state government seeking to promote all round development in Higher Secondary Education by establishing appropriate philosophies, adequate institutional network, effective administrative systems and well-qualified and motivated staff necessary to carryout academic and administrative responsibilities.
The pre-degree courses had to be segregrated from University education to bring them under the ambit of authority of the Directorate. This had been done in a phased manner and the entire process of de-linking was completed in 2000-2001. Dearth of manpower and meagre infrastructure facilities have been the serious maladies tormenting the department right from its inception. But transcending all limitations, the concerted efforts by all levels of functionaries at the Directorate have helped it to become a full fledged department and to attain organisational success.

Anna University was formed on September 4, 1978, as a unitary type of university. It integrated four technical institutions in the city of Chennai (previously known as Madras), including the College of Engineering, Guindy, established in 1794, and Madras Institute of Technology, established in 1949, which offered the first engineering degrees in India.
Perarignar Anna University of Technology (PAUT) was the original name used in 1978. In 1982 the current name of Anna University was adopted, removing the words "Perarignar" and "Technology". In December 2001, it was converted into an affiliating university, with almost all engineering colleges in the state of Tamil Nadu under its fold and also absorbing all the six government engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu as its constituent colleges.
