Public Service Commissions, both at the Union and at the State level, are amongst the most important Public Institutions with long traditions which have served well. The establishment of this Institution had its origin in the history of Indian nationalism and the persistent demand of the leaders of freedom movement for progressive Indianisation of the Civil Service under British Raj. The Montagu-Chelmsford Report accepted in principle the demand for Indianisation of the higher civil services and accordingly a provision for this was made in the Government of India Act, 1919. The Royal Commission of the Superior Civil Service in India under the Chairmanship of Lord Lee, in its 1924 Report, recommended setting up of Public Service Commission of India. The Public Service Commission of India was set up on 1st October, 1926 under the Chairmanship of Sir Ross Barker.

Anna University was formed on September 4, 1978, as a unitary type of university. It integrated four technical institutions in the city of Chennai (previously known as Madras), including the College of Engineering, Guindy, established in 1794, and Madras Institute of Technology, established in 1949, which offered the first engineering degrees in India.
Perarignar Anna University of Technology (PAUT) was the original name used in 1978. In 1982 the current name of Anna University was adopted, removing the words "Perarignar" and "Technology". In pursuance of the National Policy on Education the Government of Kerala established the Directorate of Higher Secondary Education in the year 1990. The University of Burdwan was established under West Bengal Act XXIX of 1959 as a teaching and affiliating University on 15 June, 1960 with six P.G. Departments & thirty undergraduate colleges spread over five districts that came under the jurisdiction of the University. Now, the University is offering 30 P.G. Programmes and there are 122 Affiliated colleges (including Degree Colleges, B.Ed. Colleges & Private Professional Institutes) under its umbrella. Continuous attempts are being made to incorporate the latest developments in different disciplines in the present context.
The Governor of West Bengal is the Chancellor of the University. The Court is the highest authority in the University where as The Executive Council is the principal decision making authority for day-to-day administration of the University.

Directorate of Punjab State Lotteries came into existence in the 1968 as a wing of the Finance Department with a view to curbing illegal activities like satta, matka etc and to organize lotteries, at regular intervals, so as to mobilize resources for the State Exchequer. The total staff strength of the department is around fifty. The Government of Punjab runs its lotteries strictly as per the provisions of the Lotteries (Regulations) Act 1998. Under Section 12 of the Act, the department had framed its rules i.e.Punjab State Lotteries Rules 1998. The Central Government has enacted Lotteries (Regulation) Rules 2011
